#20- Buy someone flowers

I think assumed I would do this one for someone’s birthday or something because who doesn’t love flowers on their birthday or to celebrate a special occasion? But actually, flowers on an ordinary day are really a wonderful thing. So, this week I sent some flowers to my mom just because. She’s been going through a lot and I just wanted to do something small to put a smile on her face and brighten her day a little. The only thing that would have made it better would have been if I could have personally delivered them!

Her favorite color is purple so I knew that this mix of flowers would be beautiful and to her liking. She was very excited and surprised when she got them.  Next…. I will buy some for myself! 🙂

Here’s a recent pic of my mom along with my son, Austin.

#19- Go to a professional sporting event

Several years ago, we went to see the Hawks and they were doing so poorly that I swear there were only 50 people there.  This year, they were doing pretty well when I decided to buy tickets for Scott as a Christmas gift.  Well, in spite of having a better season and a lot more fans in attendance, they lost the game we went to. But they played Philly and I purposely picked a game with another team that I liked so a loss wouldn’t be too painful. 🙂

We had fun anyway. Our seats were good and I’d purchased all-you-can-eat seats so we stuffed ourselves with snack to get our money’s worth.  It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

#36- Watch a tv series on dvd in one weekend

Well, I didn’t actually watch this show on dvd but I tivoed all of the episodes.  Since we do have a few tv series on dvd, I didn’t expect Army Wives to be the show I would choose for my marathon. One day a while back, I saw a commercial for it and set the tivo to record it but never watched it.  Since I’m on winter break (both as a teacher and student) I had some extra time on my hands and finally decided to check it out.  I thought it would be a generic drama show that I could pass some time with while browsing the internet, folding laundry, etc. But to my surprise, I really got into it.  I didn’t plan to watch the entire season in one weekend but once I started I was hooked and couldn’t stop watching. It’s a really good show. I don’t know how closely it aligns with the real lives of army wives but it’s really made me think about the things that they go through and how committed they have to be to their husbands and the life they sign up for when they get married.  I am *almost* embarassed by the fact that this show airs on Lifetime since I’ve always prided myself in NOT being one of those Lifetime junkies who consider Lifetime original movies to be quality entertainment.  But I will watch Lifetime any day if this show is on.  A few days ago, I knew nothing about it and now I can hardly wait for season 3.  I just watched season 2 so now in the meantime I guess I can try to get my hands on season 1.
